Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Castillo's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Economy: In Congress, I will work to find innovative new ways to built a better business climate for our country. Reaganomics will be my economic creed. I will cut taxes for both small businesses and big businesses in the job-creating manufacturing, energy, and shipping industries.
  • Immigration: I believe in the Great American Melting Pot. We have the great honor of being a nation of many cultures. We should generously open our arms to immigrants from foreign lands, but openness requires strict border security and reform and enforcement or our existing immigration laws.
  • Health Care: The nation that leads the world in medicine deserves a top-tier healthcare system. Unfortunately, we do not have one right now. Americans are realizing that the Affordable Care Act is not what it was hyped up to be, with long waits, massive gaps in coverage, and an expanded bureaucracy. We will innovate new ideas in healthcare, including increased funding for medical research and market-based solutions. I will fight to decentralize healthcare laws, so that states can experiment with different policies.
  • Education: California's broken public school system is among the worst in the nation, consistently ranked near the bottom. We need to reform it to educate and empower our future generations. The fundamental principle of our education reform will be choice-choice for parents as to where to send their children, and choice for students as to what they want to become, as opposed to state-mandated "standards" that assume every kid is the same. We need more hands-on training in high schools, including job training and direct transfers to vocational schools and Universities. I strongly oppose the Common Core, and will support measures empowering school choice while demanding accountability from both public and private schools.
  • Foreign Policy: The world is on fire, with murderous terrorists and predatory powers lurking in every corner of the globe, from the East Asian rim to the deserts of the Middle East to the plains of Europe. As your Congressman, I will fight to strengthen America's alliances in these troubled regions, and bolster American security commitments to our allies- especially Israel.
