November 29, 2011

Connecticut: District Judge Christopher Droney was confirmed yesterday to the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. The United States Senate voted 88-0 in favor without a debate on the nominee.[1]

Droney has served on the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut since 1997, following his appointment by President Bill Clinton. He was appointed in June and confirmed in September. The time it takes to confirm appointment has increased in the last 14 years. This time around, Droney was nominated in May 2011, approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in July, and not confirmed by the full Senate until late November.[1]

Judge Droney will succeed Guido Calabresi, who assumed senior status. Now, that Droney has been confirmed, the search is on to find a judge to fill his former seat on the Connecticut District Court.[1]
