Scales submitted the following letter to the editor outlining his campaign to the Times of Trenton:
“ | I am running for a seat on the Hamilton Township school board, because I have a vested interest in our township’s education system. I hope to be an independent voice on the board and an advocate for doing what is right for the children, faculty and taxpayers.
As a recent graduate of the Hamilton Township School District and a former student representative to the board, I have seen firsthand the many challenges we as a district face. Our special services programs have lost the attention they need. It is crucial for students who have individual education programs (IEPs) and 504 plans to receive the proper services in order to be successful. The motto of our district is “Quality Education for Every Student” — we must ensure that motto is followed. When it comes to our facilities, some of our buildings are more than 50 years old and require a large amount of money and work to be brought up to code. I will bring common-sense solutions to the table before making any decisions and will share the board’s ideas with the community to get their feedback and input. With the new PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) computer-based assessments arriving next spring, it is crucial that our students have reliable technology and the computer skills they need to take these rigorous tests. I look forward to hearing more about the issues the residents of Hamilton are passionate about during the campaign, and I ask for their vote Nov. 4. Together, we can change our district’s direction.[5] |
