Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Christopher Helali was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to immigrant parents. His mother was born in Montreal, Canada of Greek parents who fled after the Greek Civil War and the subsequent persecution of Communists by the right wing government (read more). His father was born in Malayer, Iran, to ethnic Lur and Kurdish parents, and left his homeland in 1979 in the midst of the Iranian Revolution. He served in the US Army, graduated US Army Airborne School, received the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency in Gold, and resigned (honorable discharge) as a First Lieutenant in 2015 as a conscientious objector. In 2017 he fought against Daesh (ISIS) in Syria with the International Freedom Battalion and YPG. He is a current graduate student at Dartmouth College. He has a Masters in Theological Studies from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology; a Masters of Science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece); a Masters in Marxist Philosophy from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China), and a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, History, and Political Science from the University of San Diego. He currently is a farmer in rural Vermont with his family.
