I am a native Virginian, having grown up in Richmond City. I have lived in the West End of Henrico County for the past 20 years. I am an IT infrastructure manager, currently working for a Heathcare Savings Account firm. I have been happily married to Kim for 18 years and we have 2 daughters, Cassidy and Madison. Kim and I have worked hard to build a good life for our ourselves and our children and we are proud of the young adults that they have become. I am a Christian and believe that in whatever I do, I am to glorify God. Every day, I strive to follow God's will for my life.

I grew up the middle of 9 children in a single parent household. Even though I came from humble beginnings, I learned the value of a strong work ethic and a determination to never give up, even in the face of adversity. I am a proud American and I believe in the ideals of our country. I’m living the American dream because I worked hard, I believe in individual responsibility and opportunity for all, and I know that even when obstacles present themselves, one can overcome them.

  • It is absolutely critical that our children receive a good education in order to be prepared for a 21st century workforce. The pandemic has been a major interruption in all aspects of our lives but none more important than the disruption of the education of our children. We are now faced with a major loss of core skills that our children must have to make appropriate progress. School divisions must provide additional instruction to remediate the loss of skills. Baseline testing needs to be done to assess education loss without spending inordinate amounts of time away from core instruction . We must assess technical programs, programs for our accelerated and special needs students to be certain we are meeting every student's needs.
  • Crime is at a 20 year high in Virginia. The "defund the police" mantra has taken its toll on our law enforcement professionals and their ability to do their jobs and protect our communities. We are faced with poor morale, early retirement and low numbers of entry level law enforcement applicants. We must fully fund these professionals, ensure that they have the tools, training and technology to do their jobs and most importantly the authority to make on the spot decisions without fear of losing their jobs and their livelihood
  • Virginia continues to be a state in decline relative to our neighboring states. The cost of living in Virginia continues to escalate and over-taxation has resulted in businesses moving away. Our small business communities are struggling to survive because of bad policies, both Federal and state. We now face severe labor shortages, not due to a lack of workers but because of an overbearing government that has thrown money at problems instead of reducing regulations and bolstering opportunities for startup businesses that support entrepreneurs and long term businesses. We must reduce taxes, reduce burdensome regulations and make sure that capital is available to credit worthy individuals to build businesses that can thrive.
Education/workforce and public safety are two of the most important core functions of government and ones that impact every citizen in every community in Virginia. Virginia remains at the bottom in terms of pay for teachers. While I believe that we must pay our teachers more, I believe that our education system has gone awry in the assessment arena causing a movement away from students who must master content in important curriculum areas to be truly successful. It is critical that our children are not products of a test-taking system but instead we produce students who possess important critical thinking skills. I firmly believe that politics must be removed from the classroom. Parents cannot trust our educators or administrators when political views are expressed in the classroom.
Public Safety is also one of our most important core functions of government. We, as a civil society, must depend on our legislature and our public law enforcement agencies to make policy that puts the safety of our citizens first while ensuring that our law enforcement professionals are well-equipped and well trained with the technology necessary to enable them to do their jobs. Public safety must be seen as a shared responsibility between elected officials, community members, stakeholders and law enforcement. I have pledged to have an open-door policy with every concerned citizen and our law enforcement professionals on the important issues of public safety.
I believe that it is critical that an elected official have an unwavering respect for and commitment to adhere to the US Constitution. I also believe that unless an elected official understands the inherent limitations with respect to the role of government, it is highly unlikely that one will carefully spend the resources provided through the tax system for the core functions of government. Government has continued to grow at unsustainable rates and I am committed to protecting the citizens of Virginia by voting on legislation that is needed for core functions and rejecting legislation that is wasteful and unnecessary while providing transparency and ongoing communication with my constituents.
