Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Morse's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • The Affordable Care Act: The Affordable Care Act is shoddy legislation which burdens people and the economy. The only parts worth keeping are the changes to pre-existing conditions and the ability of a college student to remain on their parents’ insurance plan until age 26. The rest needs to be repealed and replaced with the additional requirement of health insurance being able to be sold across state lines. However, no repeal should occur until a replacement has been presented.
  • Constitutional Rights: Every American has a constitutionally protected right to bear arms. Enforce the current laws and unless a person has committed a felony, has “demonstrated a willingness” to harm themselves or another, or is declared mentally incompetent, there should be no infringement upon this constitutional right.
  • Education Reform: People in a different state should not choose what books are how children in Michigan should learn. Let local educators and parents decide on the specific curriculum and how to teach it to the students. However, a child in the fourth grade should be able to have the knowledge base of any fourth grade level, regardless of state.
  • Immigration: he border needs to be secured and immigration needs to be reformed. Securing the border using physical and technological barriers will assist in saving taxpayer money because it allows for the limited resources to be directed to areas of incursion. Incorporating biometric programs across the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security will further enhance border protection. After securing the border, the focus needs to be on a fair immigration system with the requisite background checks to prevent criminals and people seeking to harm others from entrance into the United States. People who are here illegally need to be fined, forced to pay back taxes, and then allowed to start the legal citizenship process.
  • Iran Nuclear Agreement: I am absolutely against the Iran Nuclear Agreement because it will cause an “arms race” to occur, This agreement also facilitates the funneling of billions of sanction relief to Iranian proxies within the Middle East and the World. These proxies have nothing but animosity towards our allies like Israel.
