Christopher Regan

Christopher J. Regan is a judge for the Jackson County Common Pleas Court General and Domestic Relations Divisions in Jackson, Ohio. He was appointed to the court by Governor John Kasich in June 2013 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of former Judge Leonard F. Holzapfel. Regan assumed office on July 1, 2013. He was re-elected to the Jackson County Common Pleas Court in 2014, winning the right to complete Holzapfel's unexpired term, which ended December 31, 2016.[1][2]
Regan won re-election to a full term in the general election on November 8, 2016.[3]

Selection method

The 391 judges of the Ohio Courts of Common Pleas are all selected in an identical manner. Qualified individuals wishing to join the bench must participate in partisan primary elections followed by nonpartisan general elections.[4]
The chief judges of the Ohio Courts of Common Pleas are chosen by peer vote and serve for one year.[4]
Qualifications
To serve on an appellate or general jurisdiction court, a judge must be:[4]
- a district or county resident (for court of appeals and common pleas judges);
- at least six years practiced in law; and
- under the age of 70.
Under the Ohio Constitution, a judge who reaches 70 years of age may be assigned by the chief justice to active duty, receiving payment on a per-day basis in addition to whatever retirement benefits he or she is entitled to.

Education
Regan received his undergraduate degree from Albright College in 1981, his master's degree from Villanova University in 1982, and his J.D. from Capital University Law School in 1986.[1]
Career
Before his appointment to the court, Regan served as a magistrate for the Jackson County Common Pleas Court since 2000 and as a magistrate for the Jackson County Municipal Court since 2008.[1]
