Christopher Ruszkowski
Christopher Ruszkowski was the New Mexico secretary of education from 2017 to 2019. He was appointed to the position by Governor Susana Martinez (R) on August 24, 2017.[1]
Biography
Ruszkowski worked as a middle school social studies teacher before joining the Delaware Department of Education. Prior to his appointment to serve as the New Mexico secretary of education, Ruszkowski served as the department's deputy cabinet secretary and acting secretary.[1][2]

Ruszkowski was appointed to serve as the New Mexico secretary of education by Governor Susana Martinez (R) on August 24, 2017. He had served as the acting secretary since June 2017 following the resignation of former officeholder Hanna Skandera.[1] He left office in 2019.
About the office
The New Mexico Secretary of Education is an appointed state executive position in the New Mexico state government. The secretary serves as head of the state Public Education Department. In that role, the secretary is responsible for overseeing New Mexico's education policy and program development, operational management of the department, and the distribution of educational funding.[3]
The secretary of education position was created in 2003, when the state's voters approved Ballot Question 1.[4]
