Christopher Thrasher is an attorney, public policy advocate, small business owner, and elected member of the Westport School Committee.

A graduate of UMass Dartmouth and UMass School of Law, Thrasher also serves as Chair of the Westport Long-Term Building Evaluation Committee and is a member of both the Westport Finance Committee and the Economic Development Committee.

Thrasher has a nearly 20-year record of building diverse coalitions across the ideological spectrum, and previously served as senior staff for eight presidential campaigns, and multiple nonprofit organizations.

Thrasher is currently an unrolled voter, and is seeking the Republican nomination for Representative in General Court for the 8th Bristol District via write-in vote.

With no opposition in the September 3rd primary, Thrasher will need to receive at least 150 write-in votes to appear on the general election ballot.
  • • Reforming Archaic Funding Formulas Thrasher is committed to modernizing the state’s outdated funding mechanisms, including the Special Education Circuit Breaker. “Our towns are struggling under the weight of funding formulas that no longer work,” Thrasher said. “I see it every day on the Westport School Committee, and that is just the beginning of the problem. It is high time we reformed these systems to better reflect the real needs of our towns.”
  • • Standing Up to Offshore Wind Once a proponent of offshore wind for its promised economic and environmental benefits, Thrasher has become increasingly concerned about the industry’s detrimental impact on the South Coast. “I’m an advocate for real solutions to our environmental and energy crisis –not government subsidized pet projects that have disastrous effects on our communities,” said Thrasher. “It is clear to me that offshore wind has become a total boondoggle and poses a serious threat to the safety of our environment and economy — the exact opposite of what was sold to us.”
  • • Improving Senior Housing Security Massachusetts ranks last in the nation for senior housing security. Thrasher supports policies to help seniors stay in their homes and to make housing more affordable for young families. “We need to ensure that our seniors can live with dignity and that young families can afford to stay in our communities,” Thrasher emphasized.
Thrasher’s decision to run stems from growing concerns over the impact of state-level decisions on local communities. “The issues affecting our towns are shaped by policies made at the state level, and all too often, these decisions burden our local governments with unfunded mandates using outdated funding formulas,” Thrasher explained.

After a long career working with independent candidates at the national level, Thrasher is no stranger to building diverse coalitions across party lines. “I know what it takes to be an effective legislator, and I am committed to working with the leadership of both parties to bring positive results home to the South Coast.”
I deeply admire George Washington, whose foresight and leadership continue to provide timeless lessons in governance and statesmanship.

Washington’s Farewell Address, in particular, serves as a critical guidepost. His warning against "entangling alliances" reflects a profound understanding of the need for national sovereignty and caution in foreign engagements.

Equally significant is his caution against the divisive nature of political parties, which he saw as a threat to the cohesion and stability of the republic.

Washington’s commitment to unity and his ability to transcend partisan conflicts in favor of the greater national interest are virtues I strive to emulate in my own pursuit of public service.

Though the era of Washington and the Founding Fathers was marked by contradiction, particularly in their failure to address the injustices of slavery and inequality, acknowledging both the achievements and limitations of these figures can aide us in striving to build a more inclusive and just future for all.

Washington's legacy reminds us that true leadership requires a vision that transcends personal and party interests in favor of the common good, and serves both as an inspiration and a reminder that the work of perfecting our republican democracy is ongoing.
As State Representative, I answer to the voters of the 8th Bristol District exclusively; not party bosses. Prioritizing the interests of the 8th Bristol District, Acushnet, Fall River, Freetown, New Bedford, and Westport on Beacon Hill is my first concern.
