I am a proud resident of Appleton and was born and raised in Neenah, WI.  A Neenah High School graduate, have a BS in Social Work and Psychology from UW-Madison and MSW from UW-Green Bay.   I am licensed in the State of WI as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and employed full time at Theda Care At Work Employee Assistance Program as a Mental Health Counselor.  I have committed my life to helping make a difference in people's lives.
  • Appleton Area School District has a vision of Success for Every Student, Every Day.  My primary role as School Board member will be to ensure that all students receive a quality education.  I'll also be focusing on the following key issues: promoting positive emotional wellbeing of students and teachers, supporting diversity and inclusivity, and advocating for collaboration and shared decision-making responsibilities with parents, educators, students and the public.
  • Instead of asking the public for monetary donations to my campaign, I have been using my campaign platform  to spread awareness about my favorite charity, Donors Choose, a nonprofit organization that supports teachers by helping local classrooms get the supplies they need.
  • My campaign is committed to keeping divisive politics and money out of local school board elections and protecting our community's values.
Some areas of public policy I care about include mental health awareness, suicide prevention and access to mental health services; ensuring adequate funding for special education services, ensuring equitable standards and transparence for private schools that accept public funds (vouchers), and reduction of academic achievement gaps for students who are non-white and/or have disabilities.
I have battled mental illness for much of my life. My experience as a teen surviving suicide led me to pursue a career in social work and psychology to help others with similar struggles.
I would like to see personal smart devices prohibited during school hours except in case of emergencies. We need to do our part to reduce screen time for kids and do more to protect them from being exposed to harmful materials online or on social media. Research shows that excessive smartphone use damages brain development in children and may be contributing to increased mental health and behavioral problems among students.
