Charles K. Heinlein
Charles K. Heinlein is the former interim West Virginia Superintendent of Schools. His term began on July 1, 2014 and he served until new superintendent Michael Martirano assumed the position in September.[1][2]
Heinlein previously served as the interim superintendent from 2012 to 2013, when James Phares was appointed to the position.[3]
Biography
Heinlein worked for 13 years as a social studies teacher at middle and high schools. He later served as the principal of three high schools over a 20-year period. Heinlein also has experience as an education consultant at districts throughout West Virginia. He served as the state's assistant superintendent prior to his appointment as interim superintendent.[4]

Heinlein was selected as the interim superintendent in June 2014. He replaced James Phares, who announced his resignation in April. The West Virginia Board of Education selected Michael J. Martirano as the new superintendent on July 9, 2014, and Heinlein served until Martirano assumed the office on September 15, 2014.[1][2]
West Virginia Superintendent of Schools (2012-2013)
Heinlein served in an interim capacity in 2012 and 2013, pending the State Board of Education's appointment of a permanent replacement for Heinlein's former boss, Jorea Marple. She was fired by the board on November 15, 2012. Marple was appointed to the position by the state Board of Education on March 1, 2011.[5]
