Biography
Starting in 1992, Chuck Todd worked at National Journal, eventually as the editor of The Hotline, a daily briefing of Washington political activity. Todd left National Journal in 2007 to join NBC News as the political director. He also initially served as the on-air political analyst for NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, and other NBC news shows.[3] Todd was also the host of "The Daily Rundown," a mid-morning newscast on MSNBC.[4]
Work and activities
Meet the Press
In 2014, Todd replaced David Gregory as the host of NBC's Sunday news show Meet the Press.[5] CNN reported at the time that Todd's appointment as host was an effort "to reinvigorate the program and its weekly ratings."[4] At the time of his appointment, Todd said: "I just want to create a show that lives up to Meet the Press’ historical importance. I’ve hit what is, to me, one of the highest pinnacles of political journalism. Now it’s about making people that love the show proud of it."[6]
Todd is noted for his enthusiasm for politics and polling data. Dylan Byers of Politico called him a "political obsessive with a knack for polling data and a love of 'the game.'"[5][7]
In 2019, Todd, as well as Rachel Maddow, Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie and José Díaz-Balart, moderated a debate during the 2020 Democratic Party primaries.[8]
In June 2023, Todd announced he would step down from hosting Meet the Press later that year. He was succeeded as host by Kristen Welker, who was previously NBC's chief White House correspondent.[9] His last show as host was in September, 2023.[10] Todd continued to appear on NBC, MSNBC and also wrote online analysis pieces during the 2024 election cycle.[11][12]
Work after leaving NBC News
In January 2025, Todd announced he would be leaving NBC News, saying "I’d rather leave a little bit too soon than stay a tad too long."[13] Todd said NBC was allowing him to take his biweekly podcast The ChuckToddcast to a new distributor.[13] The podcast remains active as of August 2025, with episodes featuring interviews with guests and Todd's commentary.[14]
In April 2025, The New York Times reported that Todd was "embarking on a career as a media entrepreneur. He has a podcast and a YouTube channel, and plans to hire other hosts for a podcast and video network focused on politics and culture."[15] The newspaper reported he also was considering purchasing a news outlet focused on community news.[15]
