A property tax renewal was on the ballot for Cincinnati City School District voters in Hamilton County, Ohio, on November 3, 2020.[1] It was approved.
A "yes" vote supported renewing the property tax passed in 2016 at a rate of $734 per $100,000 of assessed property value to raise a total of $48 million in revenue over five years beginning in 2021. |
A "no" vote opposed renewing the property tax passed in 2016 at a rate of $734 per $100,000 of assessed property value to raise a total of $48 million, thereby allowing the existing tax to expire in December 2021. |
A simple majority vote was required for the approval of the tax renewal.
As of 2019, the total real property tax rate for the district was $5,119 per $100,000 of assessed property value.[2]

Ballot title
The ballot title for Issue 17 was as follows:
| “ | Shall a levy renewing an existing levy be imposed by the Cincinnati City School District for the purpose of providing for the emergency requirements of the school district in the sum of forty-eight million dollars ($48,000,000) and a levy of taxes to be made outside of the ten-mill limitation estimated by the county auditor to average seven and thirty-four hundredths (7.34) mills for each one dollar of valuation, which is seventy-three and four tenths cents ($0.734) for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for a period of five (5) years, commencing in 2021, first due in calendar year 2022? | ” |
Background
Cincinnati City School District ballot measures
In the five years before the November 2020, Cincinnati City School District asked voters to approve the following measures:
Issue 12: (November 2019): The measure renewed a 10-year property tax levy to fund emergency services at $1,006 per $100,000 in assessed property value.
Issue 24 (November 2017): The measure renewed for five years the school district's property tax levy of 8.43 mills—$843 per $100,000 in assessed property value—to fund emergency requirements of the school district.
