I am the daughter of two immigrants and my parents are my source of inspiration. I was 17 when I became the youngest clerk at her local Post-Office. By 19 I had saved up enough money to make a down-payment on a small house. I chose Laveen because I could see myself raising a family there. I soon did that, getting married and having two children. Seeing opportunity for service, I joined the Laveen Community Council, a volunteer service organization that puts on events that are also fund raisers. The money goes right back to my community. Next I joined the City of Phoenix's Laveen Village Planning Committee, ensuring we get quality development projects and guiding how our community grows. I was also part of the team that helped to complete and open the 202 freeway. I served as liaison in the campaign to save solar power in the state. I can't help it - service is just something my family is big on.
  • Improve Public Safety - We must ensure our families and neighbors feel safe. To do so, neighborhood organizations should be empowered to work with the police to implement community policing strategies. It fosters mutual respect between residents and the police. In addition, we need to work to become fully staffed within the police departments and this includes full staffing of the police precincts within my district.
  • Economic Development and Infrastructure- Supporting and encouraging locally owned businesses should be an economic development priority. Using federal funds granted to cities can leverage an even greater amount of private sector investment in our local businesses and serve as a catalyst for affordable home loans to our residents. As your Councilwoman, I shall promote investment of city dollars into the economic drivers of entrepreneurship and home ownership to realize a much greater return on investment by expanding our economy.
  • Connecting Neighborhoods and Education- after school activities for all residents and serve as a community center has proven to be a best practices model utilized throughout the country.
I want the residents of District 7 to feel represented. I want them to feel that they have a seat at the table. Their voice should be heard about what City council decides, related to the three pillars of public safety, economic development ,and neighborhoods and education.
A City Council member's work affect citizens' lives daily. The decisions that are made affect their safety and the feeling of being protected. Decisions affect the roads that they travel to and from work, and play. The decisions affect how and where they play close to home. The decisions can either make life better or worse on a personal level. As the next Council Woman, I will fight for my community first, to make their lives better, in all three, where they live, work, and play.
I look up to my parents most of all. Their work ethic and tenacity to build a better life for my brothers and me is truly inspirational. I aim to be that kind of a role model for my son and daughter.
The characteristics or principles that are most important for an elected official is to properly serve the constituents. An elected official should not have a personal cause or agenda, rather, she should represent the needs and wants of her community.
I was raised with work ethic and love for my community. I believe that the most important qualities are to be a good listener, and solution creator.
The first historical event that I remember was 9/11. It made me realize how much I love our country and that having the right leadership in place to handle things is vital.
My first job was at my family's restaurant. I worked there for two and one half years.
The National Anthem on Inauguration Day
Losing my father to cancer was a struggle in my life. It affected my entire family and put me in a position to become a caretaker for my older brothers.
Yes, I believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics. It is my advantage in this race. I have the experience to assume the job on day one, having served on Community Council and Village Planning.
The kind of skills or expertise that I believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess are experience doing the work within the community that I will serve. I have been in District 7 for nearly seventeen years, and been in service in a variety of capacities.
