An effort in Dolton, Illinois, to recall Village Trustees Stan Brown, Tiffany Henyard and Robert Hunt Jr. from their positions was launched in November 2015.[1] The effort did not go to a vote due to a lack of sufficient signatures.[2]

Recall supporters

Mayor Riley Rogers led the recall effort against Brown, Henyard and Hunt. Rogers, who was elected in 2013 along with the three trustees, cited efforts by the targeted officials to block his proposals.[1]

Responses by Brown, Henyard and Hunt

The three targeted trustees filed a lawsuit in county court seeking invalidation of the recall ordinance on September 24, 2015. In January 2015, an appeals court panel determined that the village board's vote to create a recall law was invalid. The judgment determined that residents of Dolton would need to vote to approve a recall vote to change local law.[3]

In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Brown criticized the mayor for spending money on a recall effort rather than infrastructure.[1]

Brown, Henyard and Hunt voted against the ordinance. Rogers and other supporters needed a minimum of 891 signatures, which equalled 25 percent of the 3,565 votes cast in the 2013 mayoral election. The deadline for delivery of signatures to the Cook County Clerk's Office was December 14, 2015.[1]
