An effort to recall three city council members—Korean Stevenson, Juanita Gowdy, and Patricia Blochowiak—did not go to a vote in East Cleveland, Ohio.[1]

Recall supporters

Among the organizers of the recall were former City Councilwoman Che Gadison and Walter Melton. Explaining the motivation for the recall, Gadison said, "I just think that myself along with other residents are just tired of the instability and we’re ready for a change."[1]

Melton said, "It’s very frustrating anytime you go to a council meeting or you go to YouTube and you look at it, it’s embarrassing. ... You see them bickering with each other arguing, the kids are watching, you want the kids to do better but you’re not doing better.”[1]

Recall opponents

Stevenson and Gowdy told News 5 that they were unaware of the recall campaign. Stevenson characterized the recall as "an effort to dismantle East Cleveland’s government."[1]
