An effort in Mechanic Falls, Maine, to recall council members Cathy Fifield, Wayne Hackett, Nick Konstantoulakis, and John Emery was initiated in June 2019. The recall election took place on September 24, 2019.[1] All four officials retained their positions.[2]

Recall vote

The recall election took place on September 24, 2019. For the recall to count, at least 384 votes—30% of the total number of votes cast in the 2018 gubernatorial election—needed to be cast in the recall election.[1] There were 376 votes cast in the recall, which did not meet the threshold for the results to be valid. All four officials retained their positions as a result.[2]

Recall supporters

The recall effort was organized by residents Mark Elliott, Aaron Ouellette, Randal Madore, Thomas Webster, and William Dyer. The group initiated the recall process in response to a 4-1 vote to remove Zakk Maher from his position as town manager.[1]

Recall organizers began gathering signatures on July 25, 2019, and signatures were submitted for review on August 19, 2019. Petitioners needed 192 valid signatures for each official. There were 242 signatures submitted for Fifield, 248 signatures for Hackett, 231 signatures for Konstantoulakis, and 224 signatures for Emery.[1]
