Organizers initiated the recall effort after an April 22, 2020, meeting during which Gilliams, Parris, and Mauti voted to fire the city manager, clerk, and attorney, as well as to remove Mayor Ed Dodd. The recall petition filed by Recall Committee Chair Tracey Cole said that the meeting took place, "in secret, without public notice, public input, and the knowledge of the entire City Council or Charter Officers such as the City Manager, City Attorney, or City Clerk."[1][3]
