U.S. municipal elections, 2019 |
The city of Nashville, Tennessee, held general elections for mayor and all 41 metro council seats, including vice-mayor, on August 1, 2019. The filing deadline for this election was May 16, 2019. A runoff election was held on September 12, 2019.[1]
A special election for the District 29 seat on the metro council was held on February 12, 2019. The filing deadline for this election was January 3, 2019. A runoff election took place on March 19, 2019.

Elections
Note: The city of Nashville operates under a consolidated government with Davidson County. Members of the Metro Council are elected through 35 numbered districts and five at-large districts within the county. The mayor is elected by the entire county. The cities of Belle Meade, Berry Hill, Forest Hills, Goodlettsville, Oak Hill, and Ridgetop each have their own governing bodies, but residents are able to vote for the mayor of Nashville and the Metro Council.[2]

A yes vote was a vote in favor of requiring the mayor to submit the following information to the metro council each year:

A no vote was a vote against requiring the mayor to submit information about city debt and the performance and efficiency of city-funded departments and agencies, thereby retaining the existing budget reporting requirements. |

One of 95 Tennessee counties—1 percent—is a Pivot County. Pivot Counties are counties that voted for Barack Obama (D) in 2008 and 2012 and for Donald Trump (R) in 2016. Altogether, the nation had 206 Pivot Counties, with most being concentrated in upper midwestern and northeastern states.

In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump (R) won Tennessee with 60.7 percent of the vote. Hillary Clinton (D) received 34.7 percent. In presidential elections between 1900 and 2016, Tennessee cast votes for the winning presidential candidate 76.7 percent of the time. In that same time frame, Tennessee supported Democratic candidates for president and Republican candidates equally. The state, however, favored Republicans in every presidential election between 2000 and 2016.
