City of Antioch Appointed City Clerk and Treasurer, Measure L (June 2012)
A City of Antioch Appointed City Clerk and Treasurer ballot question, Measure L was on the June 5, 2012 ballot for voters in the City of Antioch in Contra Costa County.[1]
This measure was defeated; if the measure had been approved, the city would have appointed people to fill the roles of city clerk and city treasurer rather than continuing to elect people to fill those roles.
A simple majority was required for approval.

Support
Arne Simonsen, a member of the Antioch City Council from 2000-2008, supported the ballot measure. He said, "The question will be whether the City Council will appoint a professional city clerk, which will cost significantly more that [sic] an elected city clerk who only needs to be a resident and over the age of 18. I have dealt with a number of professional city clerks and have always been impressed with their knowledge of local, county and state laws, as well as their professional relations with residents who seek information."[2]
