A City of King Sales Tax Advisory Question, Measure M ballot question was on the November 4, 2014 election ballot for voters in the city of King in Monterey County, California. It was approved.

Upon approval, Measure N distributed revenues from the city's sales tax, should voters approve the City of King Sales Tax measure as well. The measure proposed that 50 percent of revenues be utilized for public safety, 30 percent for money management, 10 percent for communication and 10 percent for appearance.[1]

Ballot question

The question on the ballot appeared as:[1]

If the City's General Sales Tax Measure should pass, the council shall utilize the revenue in the following manner:

  • 50% - Public Safety (Police, Fire, Recreation)
  • 30% - Money Management (Debt Reduction & Reserves)
  • 10% - Communication
  • 10% -Appearance

None of the funds generated shall be used to provide salary or benefit increases to existing staff. An independent oversight board shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the Council's concurrence, to make recommendations to the Council on the expenditure of funds. [2]
