Ballot question

The question on the ballot appeared as:[1]

City of Sausalito Essential Services Measure. To maintain the City’s long-term financial viability and improve local quality of life and essential services including storm drain repairs to protect the Bay, street/sidewalk maintenance, pothole repair, parks, landscape maintenance, youth/senior programs, library hours/services, disabled access, public safety, and other general services shall the City of Sausalito enact a half cent sales tax for 10 years, requiring independent financial audits/public review, with all funds remaining in Sausalito?[2]

Support

  • The Marin Independent Journal published an editorial endorsing both this measure - Measure O - and a similar sales tax measure in the town of Fairfax - Measure J. An excerpt of the editorial is below:[3]

Most of Marin's towns and cities have won voter approval of local sales tax measures for projects and services that voters agreed are necessary. Passage of Measure O would add Sausalito to that list.

The IJ editorial board recommends passage of Fairfax's Measure J and Sausalito's Measure O to help those towns meet important local public priorities.[2]
