A City of Yreka Chickens in the Backyard, Measure M ballot question was on the June 5, 2012 ballot for voters in the City of Yreka in Siskiyou County, where it was approved.
The approval of Measure M means that the keeping of backyard chickens is now allowed in the City of Yreka.
Prior to the approval of Measure M, only those property owners with 5 acre parcels or greater were allowed to have chickens within the city limits, subject to a use permit. Measure M changed that so that owners of any parcels zoned RA, R-1 or R-2 can have backyard chickens, regardless of the size of the parcel and without having to obtain a specific use permit for the chickens.

Path to the ballot
On December 15, 2011, the City Council of the City of Yreka adopted Resolution Number 2943. This resolution authorized placing Measure M on the ballot.[2]
