Civil law is a generic term for all non-criminal law. It refers to that branch of law dealing with settling disputes between individuals and/or organizations. Oftentimes in these types of cases, compensation may be awarded to the victim. An example of a civil lawsuit would be as follows: A car crash victim claims damages against the driver for loss or injury sustained in an accident.[1][2]
