Claire McCaskill endorses gay marriage
March 27, 2013
Carson City, Missouri: United States Senator Claire McCaskill (D) has recently switched her stance on same-sex marriage. Previously, McCaskill had not taken a firm stance on the issue, opposing same-sex marriage but supporting same-sex civil unions. In 2004, she opposed a Missouri constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage, but cited the reason as state law already prohibiting it. McCaskill revealed her change of position on a recent Tumblr post, writing "I have come to the conclusion that our government should not limit the right to marry based on who you love." Her fellow Senator from Missouri, Roy Blunt (R), has given no hints of changing his stance on the issue.[1]
