Clara Kennedy Witherspoon grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools System. Mrs.Witherspoon's professional career includes working in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools System as a District Multi-tier System of Support Specialist (MTSS), K-12 Licensed School Counselor, and high school Graduation Coach. She holds a BA degree in Psychology from North Carolina Central University. In addition, she has a master's in Christian Leadership from Liberty University and Counseling and School Administration from the University of the Southwest. Mrs. Witherspoon is the founder and President of GPM Inc., nonprofit 501 C3 which serves at-risk youth and their families.
  • Children and their families are our school district's most important stakeholders. Therefore, I will be sensitive to the needs of all children and their parents, focusing on equity and equality for all schools.
  • I will advocate for the success of the whole teacher, such as teacher pay, professional development, social and emotional needs of teachers, and creating access to equitable distribution of resources.
  • I will advocate hiring a superintendent with a proven data-driven success record of transforming low-performing schools and improving learning gaps and school safety.
I am passionate about supporting legislation representing every child's best interest.
