A Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District Levy Increase proposal was on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Clare and Isabella Counties, which are in Michigan, where it was defeated.
If approved, this proposal would have authorized the Clare=Gladwin Regional Education Service District to increase property taxes by 1.5 mills ($1.5 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for five years in order to fund the operations of the district. The estimated first year revenue from this tax is $2,826,650.[1]

Language on the ballot:
“ | Pursuant to state law, the revenue raised by the proposed millage will be collected by the Intermediate school district and distributed to local public school districts based on pupil membership count to be used for purposed authorized by law, including enhancing and offsetting the cost of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, maintenance repair and improvement of school facilities, transportation vehicles, technology and equipment.
Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District, Michigan be increased by 1.5 mills ($1.50 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 5 years, 2012 to 2016 inclusive, to provide operating funds to enhance other state and local funding for local school districts operating purposes, the estimate of the revenue the Intermediate school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2012 is approximatel y $2,826,650? YES _____ |
