My name is Claudia Lizette Rodriguez. I am a former El Paso City Council Representative. I am a first generation American, born and raised in El Paso TX. I am a wife and a mother of 4 children. Because I come from a family of Mexican migrants to include my husband, it has been extremely important for me to teach my children about their Mexican heritage and culture this includes speaking Spanish in our home but also, it has been equally important for them to take pride in being Americans and pursuing the American Dream. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in architecture. Most recently, I obtained my alternate teachers' certification in middle school Social Studies. My husband and I run a small business in trucking and logistics. We are a conservative family, with conservative principles and ideologies. We believe in God, family, and country. As a mother running for office, I want the world to know that I understand the challenges our country is currently facing and that I am running to help in the course correction that must happen to better situate America's future generations for prosperity in their American dreams.
  • I am running to make El Paso prosperous through economic development opportunities and also through improvement of our Quality of Life. First off, I believe quality of life means being able to keep more of your money and spending less time stuck in traffic. By attracting bigger companies to the El Paso area, we'll be able to retain our UTEP graduates, avoid "brain drain," and also offset or lower our immensely high property taxes. This will then also help to attract more conventions and touristic attractions which will in return help grow the small business community.
  • El Paso is a city that is growing and with its sprawled outgrowth, we are having massive traffic problems. Part of the problem has been lacking a master plan for developers but also the lack of major arterial streets and roads to service some of our most dense areas. Again, quality of life to me, is spending less time stuck in traffic and more time in the comfort of your home or getting from point A to point B in a timely manner. I am very familiar with city, county and state streets, roads, and highways and as Commissioner, I will work with all entities involved to solve and improve our traffic problems.
  • As a County Commissioner, I know that there are communities outside of the city limits that are lacking in basic services and infrastructure. I am fully aware that there are still places that don't have access to clean water and sewer services. I know that there are still neighborhoods with no sidewalks, streetlights and paved roads. As a commissioner, I will work hard to bring forth these basic necessities for these members of our community that have long been left behind.
I am personally passionate about economic development. As the first largest city on the United States border and the sixth largest city in the state of Texas, El Paso is perfectly situated and full of potential to not only have a strong healthy economy and independently prosperous, but also to be able to compete with other cities our size for viable projects.
I believe in limited government. I believe in the red, white and blue, but most importantly what has shaped and my principles in governing has been and still is God, Family and Country.
Being bilingual and being able to provide excellent customer service and of course building relationships by having open and transparent communication.
I am the only candidate in my race who has previously served and has delivered real results to my community. I am also the only candidate that knows what it takes to make real life changing decisions and what it feels like to have to make difficult and challenging decisions.
