Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Cope's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Stimulate Growth and Prosperity: The U.S. economy, based on free-market capitalism, is the greatest engine of wealth creation that the world has ever seen. Yet our economy today is not as strong, nor as robust, as it should be. It is hobbled by excessive Federal taxes that are collected to sustain perennially excessive Federal spending, which just siphons more and more money each year from our once-vibrant private sector.
  • Balance the Federal Budget: The amount of our Federal debt -- $19 trillion and growing -- is just staggering. Yet no one in Washington seems to care. The massive debt has become part of the ingrained status quo.
  • Reform the Immigration Process: With the rise and spread of ISIS and other terror groups around the globe, the problem of immigration reform in our country has taken on new urgency.
  • Assure Our National Security: As news reports make clear, our nation and our citizens face a mix of well-known and rapidly emerging threats from around the world. I believe a government’s most fundamental role is to keep its citizens safe. And I will demand that our government do exactly that.
  • Second Amendment: Disarming law-abiding Americans does not protect anyone from acts of terrorism, from the rare, random violent acts of the mentally impaired, or from the risk posed by everyday criminals.
