I am a local East Side San Jose classroom teacher, dual enrollment community college advisor, teacher-leader, and a former community college student.

I am a product of the California Community College system and the first in my family to graduate college. As a first-generation college student, I learned how difficult navigating community college can be, from understanding the complexities of financial aid to the complex transfer system requirements. While attending community college, I balanced a schedule of demanding classes and working full time. I discovered my passion for history and social science through the fantastic instructors I had at my community college. I eventually transferred to UC Berkeley as a history major. Through the classes I took at the community college, I discovered my passion for history and inspiration to teach. I went on to earn a Master’s in Urban Education Policy and Administration from Loyola Marymount University.

  • Establish community partnerships for the betterment of students. Broaden outreach and resources to students to help them understand the transfer and financial aid process before and during community college. Construction of district-provided housing for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring they can live, study, and flourish in our San José community. Expand enrollment opportunities for local high school students to attend San Jose City/Evergreen Valley Community Colleges. More involvement and support with local high school dual enrollment programs throughout San Jose.
  • Ensure funds are properly allocated for student success. Prioritize spending on programs and services dedicated to student success. Incorporate student, faculty, and staff voices in spending and programming decisions.
  • Increase transfer and graduation rates of Community College students. Increase awareness and access to student support systems. Streamline class options to better appeal to student interests and increase class availability so students are able to transfer on time. Ensure there is a transparent system for students, faculty, and staff to give ongoing feedback and input on district policies and decisions.
Education – Promote a seamless transition between high school and community college. Working with high schools and 4-year universities ensures students have a smooth and seamless transition between high school, community college, and four-year universities. Build stronger partnerships with local school districts, nonprofits, governments, and businesses. Continue to build and support programs that lead to student academic success.

Financial Aid and Financial Literacy – Creation of financial aid opportunities and outreach to ensure that all students can afford higher education.

Student and Teacher Advocate – Ensuring all student and teacher voices are heard at every stage of the policy-making process. Ensuring that faculty and part-time faculty receive the pay and benefits they need to live and work in their teaching community.

Community Engagement – Ensuring the district outreaches to all community members in San José to promote SJECCD programs and opportunities.

Mental Health – Advocate for increased mental health support and campus resources.

Housing – Recognizing the challenges of housing affordability and being committed to exploring on-campus housing solutions for students, faculty, and staff.

Equity & LGBTQ+ Rights – Promote inclusive and supportive environments, advocate for LGBTQ+ spaces and policies, and combat bullying and discrimination.
