Clay Jenkins (Democratic Party) is the Dallas County Judge in Texas. He assumed office in 2011. His current term ends on December 31, 2026.

Jenkins (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for Dallas County Judge in Texas. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Biography

Jenkins earned his J.D. from Baylor University in 1987.[1] Prior to taking the bench, Jenkins practiced law out of his own firm, Jenkins & Jenkins. His professional experience also includes co-owning Brown Dental Health Services.[2]

Jenkins won the Democratic primary runoff election, receiving 65.2 percent of the vote. Next, he won 49.58 percent of the vote in the general election, winning the seat.[6][7]

Shelter-in-place order in response to U.S. Coronavirus Pandemic, 2020

On March 22, 2020, Jenkins issued a shelter-in-place order for all Dallas County residents in response to the coronavirus outbreak. The order took effect at 11:59pm on March 23 and lasted until 11:59pm on April 3. A shelter-in-place order forbids residents from leaving their homes for any non-essential activity.[8] Jenkins had previously issued orders restricting the operations of various businesses and community gatherings in response to the outbreak.[9]

On April 28, 2020, Jenkins made public comments encouraging Texas residents to continue to shelter in place despite the impending expiration of the statewide stay-home order on April 30.[10]
