Cleveland Coon was a 2014 candidate for the 19th Judicial District in Louisiana.[1] He was defeated by Beau Higginbotham in the 2014 election.[2]

Coon ran for election to the 19th Judicial District.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on November 4, 2014, receiving 42.7 percent of the vote. He competed against Mike Davis (Louisiana), Beau Higginbotham, R. Chris Oetjens, and Jamie Morain Zanovec.
General: He was defeated in the general election on December 6, 2014, after receiving 48 percent of the vote. He competed against Beau Higginbotham. [1][3][4]

Education

Coon received a B.A. in political science from Southern University and A & M College in 1976 and a J.D. degree from the Southern University Law Center in 1981. In 2003, he received an L.L.M. in environmental law from the Tulane University School of Law.[5]

Career

Coon is an associate professor at the Southern University Law Center. He began working there in 1989, and became the director of the Pre-Law Academic Assistance Program in 1991. He served as an assistant attorney general with the Louisiana Department of Justice from 1984 to 1989, where he was legal counsel to the Southern University Board of Supervisors. Coon has also previously worked as a public defender and as an associate at the law firm of White, Jones & Lombard.[5][6]
