I am a progressive Democrat who has lived in Maine and been self-employed for almost 50 years. I am firmly committed to protecting the environment, equal rights, heath care, education, equal opportunity for all, and getting money out of politics.
  • Economic justice for all. (A living wage or a guaranteed yearly income and Medicare for all.
  • Social justice for all. (Reinventing the police force governed by an equal justice before the law commission.))
  • Climate justice for all. (Rapidly moving to a zero carbon emissions economy and mitigating environmental and climate disruption while assisting those with losses.)
I am especially passionate about Medicare for all, a Green New Deal, creating a consumer-owned electric grid, equal pay for equal work and/or guaranteed income and an equitable taxation system based on one's income.
In modern affluent societies, the core responsibility of any elected official is first to the most socially, economically, and/or politically disadvantaged population. The age of neo-liberalism with top-down solutions for all of our social, economic, and political problems is no longer viable. The foundation of a strong building starts at its base.
The first historical event I remember was the protest against the Vietnam War. I was 19 and I felt the war was unjust and went to Washington D.C. to add my voice to the dissent.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. It is very creative and opens up young peoples eyes to new possibilities.
Inequality and inequities have always bothered me, as has a sort of economic caste system that seems to lock people into a mindset that destroys their creativity and blocks individual to be a more productive, fulfilled and supporting member of society as a whole.
In order to meet our governor's goal of zero emissions by 2040, Maine consumers need to purchase the current privately owned electric utility and make it a Maine consumer owned non-profit power authority. Such an entity would save the voters billions of dollars and more rapidly de-carbonize Maine's energy future. In addition, a consumer-owned power company would employ many more workers because it would work to modernize our grid efficiently to use of all sources of renewable energy.
Building good relationships with other legislators is the way to get things accomplished.
My philosophy is to use both Census data and input from town residents about how districts should be drawn up. Rural towns should allow citizens to vote on how their areas are to be split up. It seems logical to allow whole towns to be part of a single district. Larger cities should likewise allow their citizens to have input on how their cities are divided into districts.
