It is my honor and privilege to be serving you on your Grover Beach City Council. I was born and raised in Grover Beach, having spent the vast majority of my life here, and live here now in District 4. I went through our local public schools including Grover Heights Elementary School. I have raised children in Grover Beach, have had a blast at our city government’s events such as our well-known Summer Concerts series, enjoyed recreation at our city parks, shopped our stores, and feasted at our restaurants. Throughout all of these years the best part is getting to know my fellow residents and learning about what they love most about our city too. I bring years of extensive community involvement in many civic, educational, business, and nonprofit organizations with some I'll note here. Have been in many leadership roles of local service clubs such as Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Optimist, Altrusa, and Exchange to participate in community service while also raising funds to support local youth, youth serving organizations, and those organizations addressing those in need in our community. Was on the South County Chambers of Commerce’s Governmental Affairs Committee including as Co-Chair to promote business-friendly public policies. I continue to proudly be a member of multiple Grover Beach organizations such as the Grover Heights Elementary School PTA, Friends of the Grover Beach Library, Grover City Grange #746, Friends of the Five Cities Fire Authority, etc.
  • Public Safety: It’s inevitable that problems will arise in every community and we must have a city where our residents, businesses, nonprofits, and visitors feel safe. If elected, I will continue to work to advance our emergency services. While on the City Council, we’ve hired both our new Police Chief and Fire Chief, seen a reduction in crime, and maintained positive community relationships. I’m proud to have the endorsements of both the Five Cities Firefighter Association and Grover Beach Police Officers Association as well as the San Luis Obispo County Probation Peace Officers' Association and our San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkison (title for identification purposes only).
  • Streets: If elected, I will continue to work to ensure that our voter approved Measure K-14 funds will continue to make progress to improve our residential streets. I will make sure that road development continues on schedule and build a maintenance plans for them to remain in great condition so that they never return to the poor conditions our city had a reputation for years and instead be the higher quality that our residents expect.
  • Economy: Times are tough with high inflation and our residents' income that hasn’t kept up, which is why while on the City Council I’ve voted against excessive rate increases and even led on the City Council to successful vote to reduce the water rates to support our residents’ affordability. I’ll continue to support growing our Middle Class and help those who struggle financially. Having spent most of my life in Grover Beach, I have grown to love our local businesses. If elected, I will continue to work to ensure that our local businesses are supported with their ability to grow and economically prosper in this economy, while also supporting their employees so they can continue to live here too.
I know our city is diverse in its demographics, different needs in different parts of the city, and will continue to need to adjust to the changing conditions over time, which is why the intersection of many public policy areas are important to me. Improved infrastructure is critical so we don' t have failing aging infrastructure and the systems our residents rely upon continues to work. Public safety is another that those within our city relies upon to provide a service that they can't do on their own. Improving public health so that we have a better place for our families to raise and live in especially with the 3 elementary schools within the city boundaries such as promoting more tobacco-free environments.
Some of the most important characteristics of an elected official I believe are:

-Open-mindedness in being both able and willing to continue to listen and learn from their constituents, city staff, community stakeholders, etc. the issues in their city, current or potential impacts of those issues, and better solutions to address them.
-Consistent and persistent in continuing education as there are a wide variety of issues that come before a City Council that it can't be expected they are going to be an expert in all of them especially in this rapidly changing world; however, by actively learning to expand the foundational knowledge and keeping current on many of them it's more likely better decisions will come from an informed perspective.
-A partnership mentality that views its residents, businesses, nonprofits, schools, other government agencies, etc. as partners in finding out how decisions and solutions can be best crafted.

-Community focused with the understanding that their constituents are very diverse in demographics, backgrounds, beliefs, socio-economic statuses, etc. and thus it's important to have a broad understanding of what's important to them since though the perspectives from constituents may not always be consistent (and sometimes conflicting with one another) their voices are important to making better decisions for a better city.
I am running to be the District 4 Community Council Member to continue to better our community, further promote a heightened quality of life, and give our residents peace of mind while they live their everyday lives. My legacy I want to leave is one where immediate and emerging issues are addressed for our city as well as both long-standing and complex issues get resolved early to eliminate and/or lessen the severity of impacts and/or disruptions on our residents' lives is minimalized in the future. Our residents have enough stress on their lives and bringing solutions to areas such as our city government's critical aging infrastructure to meet their daily needs doesn't have to be one of them if we solve them early, responsibly, and in the most cost-effective manner. I will continue to fight and work hard to ensure the completion of fixing our streets, support our residents' affordability and local businesses, and advance public safety.
I believe it's generally beneficial for City Council Members to have had some previous experience in government even if it's not directly within municipal government experience. This type of experience tends to create a more realistic mindset for someone walking into the City Council understanding there is a higher level of public trust, transparency, and accountability in decision-making as well as there are many true legal and ethical limitations that aren't commonly present in the private sector. Additionally, there tends to be a greater understanding of what authority actually exists compared to what can be a misperception of what people believe the authority the role has. This can help lead to more ethical and better decision-making.
Numerous individuals and organizations have endorsed my campaign, including:

-6 Former Grover Beach Mayors
-San Luis Obispo County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bresica
-San Luis Obispo County Assessor Tom Bordonaro
-San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson
-Former San Luis Obispo County Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator Jim Erb
-California State Senator Monique Limón
-California State Assemblymember Dawn Addis
