Three of the five seats on the Nampa School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on May 16, 2017. What is the modern role of a school board? What should voters know about it that they perhaps don't?
| “ | The role of the school board is to enact policy, adopt courses of study, employ staff qualified to perform prescribed duties, approve budgets and business activities, provide support and resources for operational needs, evaluate effectiveness of educational programs, and communicate with stakeholders (teachers, parents, district residents, students, and staff).
One of the keys to a school board being effective in these duties is the ability to support, and hold accountable, the District Superintendent. Input from stakeholders is an important component to an effective school board.[5] |

Why should voters consider you for this office?
| “ | There are 10 specific areas of duties and responsibilities of the Board of Trustees. I have experience and education that prepares me to perform all these duties. This expertise comes from work, volunteer activities, and formal education. Details of how I feel I am a strong candidate for the Nampa School District Board of Directors can be found on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Clinton.L.Child/posts/171961453309030[5] | ” |

What are your priorities if elected?
| “ | I am a firm believer that a community is only as strong as the education and opportunities provided to all people within that community. Nampa, Canyon County, and the Treasure Valley are no exception. The foundation to a community’s ability to ensure effective, innovative, and impactful opportunities is public education. Nampa Idaho is my family’s home and where I live, work, play, and try to make a positive impact wherever possible. It is for these reasons that I my priorities if elected would be to influence and direct policy within OUR public school system related to: 1- Safety and security 2- Management/administrative support, performance, and accountability 3- Allocation and distribution of adequate resources 4- Responsible and accountable resource utilization[5] | ” |

You will be working with a new superintendent. What would be your expectations for that person?
| “ | My expectations for the new superintend, if I’m elected or not, would be around the priorities listed above. The safety and security of our students, teachers, and staff must be a top priority.
I want a leader that has experience in building positive relationships at all levels to prompt early identification of safety issues: like bulling, drugs, alcohol, violence, exclusions, and other detrimental factors. I would also like to see someone that supports enhancing our School Resource Officer program. This is for the increased presence, but more importantly to build positive relationships with the student body. My other expectations of a superintendent would be fiscal responsibility. This is not just cutting costs. This means getting funds where needed and ensuring that where funds are spent is effective and redirecting if they are not.[5] |
