As of 2019, Coalition Against Legalizing Marijuana (CALM NV) was a PAC that opposes the legalization of marijuana in Nevada. The group was also known as the Campaign Against Legalizing Marijuana.[1] The committee opposed Nevada's 2016 Marijuana Legalization Initiative.[2]

Mission

According to CALM NV, the PAC's mission was described as follows:[3]

The Coalition Against Legalizing Marijuana in Nevada (CALM-NV) will actively fight all attempts to legalize recreational marijuana use in Nevada.[4]

Background

CALM NV was founded by Jeff Kaye, a lobbyist. Kaye was a senior member of the Las Vegas-based conservative political consulting firm, Red Rock Strategies.[5] Kaye described CALM NV as "just a grass-roots organization who are against drugs getting in people's hands."[6] In its Nevada Secretary of State filings, CALM NV stated that it was a "a group of parents, public safety officials, doctors, teachers and concerned citizens."[7][6]

CALM NV, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, failed to file any documents with the Nevada Secretary of State by the May 24 or June 10 deadlines.[1]
