My name is Cole Sartell. I’ve lived in Brookings since 2007. I am the president of Brookings Pride, and the LGBTQ+ liaison on the Brookings Human Rights Commission.
  • Personal freedom with responsibility.
  • I want to bring Brookings values to the state capitol.
  • Politicians are politicians, not doctors and teachers. When it comes to legislation, we need to actually listen to the experts in those fields.
I’m very passionate about medical freedom and personal freedom. Our state leaders shouldn’t be dictating gender affirming care or reproductive care. We need to allow constituents to make their own decisions along with their family and doctors.
To vote and pass laws for their constituents needs, and not their own personal opinions.
Brave New World. It was one of the only books in high school that I read in advance because I liked it so much and it caught my attention.
I believe it’s important to have a basic knowledge, but not to have had experience. We need more regular people in office to understand the needs of their community.
There are many stories that I hold close to my heart. Ranging from families with trans kids needing to move out of the state, to people who can get pregnant who needed abortions for medical reasons, to teachers, who are struggling because of low teacher pay. It shows me that there are so many different people out there. They need a government that represents them.
Health and human services and education.
We need complete transparency at every level of state government. No officials above the law.

I graduated from Brookings High School back in 2010. I have grown to really love this community the more I have become involved. Brookings is a model community and I would like to bring some of us, up to Pierre.
  • Diversity in government
  • Teacher pay and keeping the government out of censoring history
  • Expanding Medicaid in the state and listening to the will of the voters on marijuana
As an openly gay candidate, I want to be a voice of representation and positivity for the LGBTQ plus and two spirit community. There’s too much harmful rhetoric coming from the capital, and someone needs to stand up and fight for what is right.
