I have been serving our community for nearly a decade, beginning with my service watching over student segregated fees at Associated Students of Madison. Then I went to work for the State Senate, where I staffed committee hearings and floor sessions. I protected our constitutional right to observe and participate in government, and I learned a ton about the issues facing the state and local communities. When COVID hit in March of 2020, I went to work at the state agency that handles licensing. I was responsible for reviewing and issuing licenses for doctors, respiratory therapists, physician assistants, and others. I helped get thousands of health care heroes to work. I also served on the city’s Vending Oversight Committee where we worked to turn the Streatery Program into a permanent reality in Madison, making it easier for restaurants to establish sidewalk cafes. I now serve a State Senator and his constituents. The most important thing I have learned so far is the importance of constituent services. When I’m not fighting for the residents of District 2 at the Common Council, I will be waiting to hear each comment, concern, and complaint.
  • Madison is facing a housing shortage. In order to keep up with population growth and provide access to safe, affordable housing, we need to enact policies that increase the housing supply.
  • In order to make Downtown Madison safe for residents, students, and visitors, we need to make sure our streets are safe. New streets upgrades should be designed to discourage reckless driving, increase safety for pedestrians, and encourage the use of bicycles and other modes of travel. Making streets safer will make downtown safer and more vibrant and get us closer to climate goals with fewer cars on the road.
  • District 2 is the most dense district in Madison. As we pursue increases in the housing supply, we must work to defend our historical landmarks and historical district. This is as important for tourists as it is for neighbors. Smart development is not at odds with preserving the unique character of our neighborhood.
I passionately want to see Madison grow and thrive. The only way we achieve this is to make sure everyone has a real chance to live in our community. We must aggressively pursue increases in the housing supply by creating incentives for more density, especially along transit routes. People need to be able to move from their homes to their grocery stores, their jobs, and their sources of entertainment. This only works with an efficient and equitable transportation system. As Madison introduces Bus Rapid Transit and a new transit network design.

To make housing accessible, I support first month rental assistance for eligible tenants. To support stable housing, I support a tenant's right to counsel. Both of these proposals have proven successful in other parts of the country, and it's that we bring them home to Madison.

Finally, to make our city more vibrant, we should explore all options to make State Street more walkable and increase food, art, and other types of vending.
