Colin Stirling Bruce is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. On May 6, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Bruce to the court to fill the vacancy left by Michael McCuskey.[1] He served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney until his confirmation on October 7, 2013.[2]

Early life and education

Bruce attended University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating with a B.A. in 1986. He went on to attend University of Illinois College of Law , earning his J.D. in 1989.[1]

On May 6, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Colin Stirling Bruce to the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois to fill the vacancy left by Michael McCuskey.[3] Obama commented on the nominations, stating, "I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench. They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court."[1]

Bruce was rated Unanimously "Qualified" by the American Bar Association. He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 19, 2013 and you can find his Committee Questionnaire available here.[4]

On October 7, 2013, Bruce was confirmed by the U.S. Senate by roll vote of 98-0.[2]
