Campaign themes

2014

Bliss' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]

Education

  • Excerpt: " As a retired teacher with thirty years of classroom experience, I agree with Utah’s voters. Education should be our number one issue! Our children are our greatest natural resource and deserve better than last place. Their future success and self-reliance depends on quality education. We need to get education funding into the classroom to lower class size and provide resources children and teachers need."

Air Quality

  • Excerpt: "Because of our physical topography, inversions will never go away in the Salt Lake Valley. As population increases, the problem becomes worse. Our health and our children’s health are being negatively affected. We must safeguard our families' health. We must work across the aisle, creatively and continuously to limit air pollution."
  • Excerpt: "The single most important thing the legislature can do is to agree to sit down together and work out bipartisan solutions NOW and a long-term plan for the future!"

Moderation and Cooperation

  • Excerpt: "In my experience in Bluffdale City Planning Commission and City Council, we did not identify as either Republican or Democrat. We spent out time identifying the issues, prioritizing them and working together to find solutions. We can accomplish this on a state level. There are many excellent representatives (both Republican and Democrat) I look forward to working with at the Utah State Legislature."

Small Business

  • Excerpt: "It is critical to Utah's economy to create an "entrepreneur-friendly environment." We can encourage sustainable growth and long-term prosperity by advocating for small business and listening to their needs and concerns."

Common Core

  • Excerpt: "We need and want local control and high standards to prepare our students to succeed."
