Colorado's Wasserman sentences man to life in prison
February 28, 2011
Colorado: This weekend, Judge Francis C. Wasserman convicted William Rex Fowler of first-degree murder for shooting his former business partner in December 2009. The dispute leading up to the crime revolved around Fowler's donation of $250,000 of the company's money to the Church of Scientology, of which he was a member. The donation to the organization was discovered in prior testimony, as Judge Wasserman would not allow either the prosecution or defense to mention Scientology in open court.[1]
In November 2009, Fowler's partner resigned from the business. He was invited back to the office one month later to pick up a severance check. At that time, Fowler shot him.[1]
Defense lawyers provided little opposition for the prosecution during the trial. Though the team offered a different explanation for the course of events that fateful day, they did not present any witnesses. Fowler was sentenced to a life term in prison for the crime.[1]
