The Colorado Discrimination Repeal Amendment did not make the 2012 ballot in the state of Colorado as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would have asked voters whether or not to repeal language in the Colorado Constitution that prohibited laws that banned discrimination against the gay community. The language was added by a 1992 statewide measure known as Issue 2.[1]
The measure was part of Senate Concurrent Resolution 1, a piece of legislation that proposed three repeals of constitutional language that were previously struck down by legal rulings as unconstitutional.[2]
Path to the ballot
Two-thirds of each chamber of the Colorado General Assembly must vote affirmatively for a proposed amendment in order for it to go on the statewide ballot for potential voter ratification.
