Recall reports

An effort to recall six members of the Colorado Springs District 11 Board of Education in El Paso County, Colorado, was launched in February 2013.[1] The recall effort fell short in May 2013 when recall supporters failed to submit sufficient signatures.[2] The six targeted school board members were Elaine Naleski, Nora Brown, Al Loma, Sandra Mann, Luann Long, and Jan Tanner.[3]

Reasons for recall

Recall committee members included Mariam Kurvink, Elaine Shoemaker, and Dorothy Dykes. The recall effort was initiated after the school board voted to close two elementary schools and Wasson High School. The one board member who didn't vote to close the schools, Bob Null, was the only member of the school board who did not face a recall campaign.[1]

The six recall petitions were filed with the El Paso County Clerk on February 28, 2013. The County Clerk approved the petitions on March 7, giving recall supporters 60 days to collect a minimum of 15,000 signatures on each of the six petitions.[1][4] The recall effort came to a close on May 5, 2013, when recall supporters failed to submit signatures by the 5pm deadline.[2]
