Appointment
The public health director is appointed the director of the board of public health by the board of county commissioners.[1]

The director of the public health agency selects all other personnel the agency requires and is the leader of the public health agency.[1]
Position overview
The agency issues orders and adopts rules in the face of a public health emergency and the director is the leader of those decisions.
The public health director administers and enforces the public health laws of the state and the public health orders, rules, and standards of the state department or the state board. He or she also administers and enforces the orders and rules of the county or district board.
The director holds hearings, administers oaths, subpoenas witnesses, and takes testimony in all matters relating to the exercise and performance of his or her powers and duties. He or she acts as the local registrar of vital statistics or to contract out the responsibility of registrar in the area over which the agency has jurisdiction. The director directs the resources needed to carry out the county or district public health plan developed.
If the county or district board requests, the director may serve as secretary to the board responsible for maintaining all records and for ensuring public notice of all meetings. The director is the custodian of all properties and records for the agency.[1]
