Colorado school board member
School board member is an elected position in the state of Colorado according to the state's constitution. The school board that governs the school district is referred to as the board of education.[1]
Election
At general elections, the members of school district boards are elected by registered voters living in the district they are running in. Elections are held every two years to ensure members serve four year terms. There must be five, six or seven school board members, or school directors, elected to each board.[2]
Government roles
Local school board members, also known as district board members, create laws and policies for the effective management of the district. They are responsible for making a correct and updated copy of the law available to the public at the district's administrative office. The board is responsible for taking minutes of all open meetings that must be available for public inspection at the administrative office of the district.
The board employs required personnel and fixes their paid compensation. The board must ask the department of education before hiring a person for a position.
