As a presidential candidate and as President, Donald Trump (R) released lists of potential Supreme Court nominees in 2016, 2017, and 2020. Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to succeed Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court on January 31, 2017. Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to succeed Anthony Kennedy on July 9, 2018.
