The 3rd Congressional District of Connecticut held an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 8, 2016.

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Democratic. Incumbent Rosa DeLauro (D) defeated Angel Cadena (R) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Both candidates won their nomination at a party convention and did not face a primary election in August. DeLauro won reeelection in the November 8 election.

Primary: A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate whom they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Connecticut law gives parties discretion to decide whether unaffiliated voters may vote in their primaries. As of October 2025, both parties operated closed primary where only a voter affiliated with the party may vote in a party's primary.

As of the 2010 redistricting cycle, Connecticut's 3rd Congressional District was located in the south-central portion of the state along the Long Island Sound. Portions of Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties were included in the district.
