Connecticut legislators defeat campaign finance legislation for referendum groups

HARTFORD, Connecticut: Legislators in Connecticut during the 2009-2010 session only considered one piece of legislation aimed at initiative and referendum rights.
The only bill that was considered was House Bill 5322. The bill would have changed the minimum registration and reporting threshold for groups in support or opposition of a referendum. Under current law, the minimum registration and reporting requirement for a referendum group is if a group spends or receives $1,000 or more. The bill would increase the minimum registration threshold to $2,000[1].
The bill died in committee without seeing an up or down floor vote in either house of the Connecticut General Assembly[2].
