An effort to recall City Councilwoman Connie Trube in La Marque, Texas from her position was launched in June 2014.[1] The recall election was initially scheduled for November 4, 2014.[2] The city council canceled the recall after the city's attorney revised his opinion on the recall's legality.[3]

Trube was targeted for recall over allegations that she suggested closing the city library because "only blacks use it."[1]

Petitioners gathered 98 verified signatures, enough to force a recall election.[1] The election was originally scheduled for November 4, 2014.[2] The recall was canceled, however, after city attorney Ellis Ortego revealed that he allowed two different petitions against Trube to be combined. Ortego noted that this was an error and thus rendered the recall illegal.[3]
