Conrad Keefe Cyr was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit. He served on the court as an active judge from November 20, 1989, to January 31, 1997, after which he served as a senior judge until his death on July 28, 2016. Prior to joining the First Circuit, Cyr served as a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Maine.[1][2]

Early life and education

A native of Limestone, Maine, Cyr graduated from Holy Cross College with a B.S. in 1953 and from Yale Law School with a J.D. in 1956.[1]

Professional career

Judicial nominations and appointments

U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit

Cyr was nominated to the First Circuit by President George H.W. Bush on August 4, 1989, to fill the seat vacated by Frank Coffin. Cyr was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 24, 1989, and he received his commission on November 20, 1989. He assumed senior status on January 31, 1997, and served in that capacity until his death on July 28, 2016. His position on the First Circuit was filled by Judge Kermit Lipez.[1][2]

District of Maine

Cyr was the eleventh federal judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maine. He was nominated to the court by President Ronald Reagan on August 11, 1981, to fill the seat vacated by George J. Mitchell. The U.S. Senate confirmed him to the Maine district court on September 25, 1981, and he was commissioned on September 28, 1981. He served on the court through November 20, 1989. Cyr was succeeded by Judge D. Brock Hornby.[1]

District of Maine, bankruptcy court

Cyr was also a United States bankruptcy judge for the District of Maine from 1973 to 1981.[1]
